Bereavement & Complicated Grief
Despite loss and bereavement being common experiences, our culture has not understood it enough to support the healthy grieving process. Handling loss of a loved one is not easy and is often characterized by longing and yearning for something different.

You might be experiencing normal grief where over time the numbness, sorrow, guilt and anger have eased and a part of you knows that you can move forward. You are coping with loss and turning to therapy for support because there are difficulties with recovering in certain areas of your life.
This could include navigating other people’s reactions while you are mourning, the impact on your relationships, redefining your identity after loss, finding meaning and purpose, balancing how to move on while still honouring your loved one, reconciling guilt about moving forward, and processing unfinished business.
In complicated grief, compared to normal grief, the progression from the painful emotions of loss to integrated grief is derailed. It has been more than a year and grief symptoms feel persistent, severe and are impairing daily responsibilities.

My Approach
With my style of therapy, you will be provided with psychoeducation on grief, an honoring space to talk about your loved one (the good, the bad, and everything in between) and opportunities to disperse, rather than internalize, emotional pain.
